The Chicago Chess Foundation will be hosting its “Friends of Chess Night Out Fundraiser” Thursday March 1 at the Metropolitan Brewing taproom in Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood.
All proceeds raised during FOC Night Out will support the free educational programs of the foundation. CCF has provided free services to more than 2000 children living in neighborhoods across the city over the last two years.
“We hope to have a fun night with parents, coaches, teachers and chess enthusiasts during FOC Night Out,” said CCF President Benjamin Wong. “This event will also help us broadcast our message that chess is an important tool for building a new generation of strategic thinkers and academic superstars in the City of Chicago.”
During the 2018-19 academic year CCF will provide at least three free summer chess camps, seven free elementary school chess tournaments and one free high school chess tournament. Through CCF’s innovative “Rook, Rattle & Roll” grant program, at least a dozen Chicago schools will launch new chess programs. Another five schools will receive master-level instruction under CCF’s “Pawns to Queens” grant program.
FOC Night Out kicks off CCF’s 10-day “Chess Drive 2018” campaign. Between March 1 and March 10 CCF seeks to collect online donations. All dollars raised up to $25,000 will be matched by the Oppenheimer Family Foundation.
The CCF fundraising committee is grateful for Metropolitan Brewing’s sponsorship of FOC Night Out. Metropolitan Brewing, located at 3057 N. Rockwell Ave., offers a menu of hand-crafted German-style lagers in a casual setting that offers spectacular views of the north branch of the Chicago River.
Tickets for FOC Night Out are priced at $50. In addition to Metropolitan’s signature beers, attendees will be treated to a buffet dinner. Chess supporters can reserve tickets by contacting Michael Bologna at firstname.lastname@example.org.
